What is a welfare unit?

A welfare unit is a container converted to provide site facilities for workers — typically a toilet, washroom, drying room, and a kitchen or break area. Self-contained welfare units include water tanks, waste tanks, and a generator. They meet workplace health and safety rules on construction and remote sites where mains services are not available.

Modern welfare units can include kitchens, showers, drying rooms and offices in a single structure. Their popularity comes from combining several site facilities into one transportable unit.
